We stayed in the Haleakala Cottage for 9 nights and it was wonderful! My only concern prior to our stay was that it may be too far away from... read more the towns. We were wrong, it is a short drive to Paia a cute little town with plenty to do. We were able to tour the entire island! Also being right on the Road to Hana we were able to do the drive twice, the first time we made the whole loop.
The treats that Sharyn left for us were delish, specially that BREAD!! Since returning home we have definitely been more cautious of our recyclables, it was a great learning experience for us both!
We cannot wait to return to paradise!!
Are stay was absolutely perfect. My wife and I live on Maui and thought we knew all the hidden gems. Huelo Point Lookout proved me wrong and exceeded all expectations.... read more The attention to details was beautiful. We were lucky enough to stay for two nights and had one rainy day that gave us an excuse not to go out and adventure. By far the best vacation day we have had. We were able to enjoy the hot tub and view and all of the amazing amenities. A true tropical country Wonderland.
I absolutely cannot say enough wonderful things about this place! We absolutely loved it. It's an oasis in such a beautiful location! We stayed in the Lookout and waking up... read more to the sunrise over the ocean every day was perfect. If you are one to sleep in, take an eye mask as this place lights up with the sun every morning. It's so nice to wake up with the warm golden sun on your face!
It is definitely remote, but in the best way! We loved staying out this far and just built in the time to get back and forth from the location. Just plan for it, and you'll be so glad you did! We popped into Paia easily for breakfast and dinner - a nice beautiful drive. Go to Cafe Amis! 🙂
The place had everything we needed and more - every detail was taken care of. A private hot tub under the stars after a long day of hiking cannot be beat! 🙂 Sharyn left the perfect amount of snacks, eggs, bread and amazing fruit to keep us going when we needed it. Love the towel warmer and being able to do laundry!
We would stay here again in a heartbeat - you'll be so glad you did!

We turned the chairs to face outward and watched the sunrise there every day. The beds are comfortable, kitchen well equipped, hot tub warm & bubbly, and the pool refreshing (though unheated, so a bit cold in winter). The setting is super private - the only times we saw other guests in 10 days were a couple times as we were driving off the property. We loved staying in this hidden corner of Maui, which is beautiful, lush, and not crowded by other people. That said, it is remote (about a half hour to Paia, the nearest town), so if you want night life, easy access to restaurants, etc, this probably isn’t the spot for you. Hosts Sharyn and Jeff were available but generally hands-off unless needed, which we appreciated. More
We can't gush enough about this "hidden" oasis - it really is a bit of heaven. If you want to feel like the most spoiled last people on Earth, this... read more is the place for you. Accommodations were homey and comfy (the dining room table which sitting at has you looking out over the ocean is itself a work of art!), facilities fantastic (more below on those), and hosts very warm and welcoming. Kiddo loved the pool, and the hot tub; Mr and Mrs have to agree with her. Access to some beach gear was a bonus for folks who travel light. We were fortunate to stay in the Ocean Lookout which is worth the extra money for the space and the stunning views. We encourage you to take the short walk to the cliff’s end to better appreciate the wonderful environs from which Sharyn and Jeff have created a truly special place to stay.

We took advantage of location proximity exploring east Maui (Hana side) through North Shore, Central Maui and Upcountry while staying at Sharyn’s property. Did I mention the on prem swim... read more pool, hot tub, cliff walk, self pick tropical fruits and kids loving chicken coop! Previously everyone has been talking about seeing a turtle or two. Come here visiting North Shore, we saw few dozens of them sunbathing late afternoon on Ho'okipa Beach! And thanks to Sharyn’s and her staff’s hospitality, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!!
After spending a few days on the south shore snorkeling for the "beach half" of our vacation, my wife and I stayed here for four nights for the "jungle half."... read more It was incredible! It can be easy to feel like a clueless tourist on Maui (because, face it, you probably are!) but this quiet, peaceful corner allows you to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the prime tourist destinations - while still being minutes away from them!
The place is a couple miles into the Road to Hana, so we felt especially smug about getting a head start on our Hana day trip to beat the heaviest of tourist traffic, and the drive back from Hana was much shorter than it would've been had we stayed elsewhere on the island, so that was a major perk! We also loved just relaxing in the private hot tub under the night sky (great stargazing), laying by the pool, and checking in on the chickens.
Everything felt very private. Sharyn was extremely welcoming. This B&B is clearly very loved. More

Prepare to be enchanted the minute you set foot on this lovely, secluded property - and one that happens to be in an incredibly ideal location! My wife and I... read more grabbed the opportunity to book a last-minute, 5-night stay at the Ocean Lookout, and I can easily say it was one of the best travel decisions we've made yet. Just a short drive from the airport, you take a short side road and enter a property lush and full of life - not to mention epic, EPIC views of the north coast on one side, Haleakala on the other. It's your call whether you want to explore the trails on the Road to Hana, roll into Paia for a great meal, or try a beach just across the way. Heck, maybe you'll just stay and enjoy the house's quiet vibes, or that hot tub at the end of your day! Everything feels possible from here, and your hosts are charming and eager to share their recommendations. You see, Maui had been our very first trip off-mainland 12 years earlier, and after a tough experience we'd been bypassing it in favor of the Big Island. But after this recent stay at the Lookout, we got a look at how gorgeous and welcoming Maui truly can be - and I'll say we're back in love with the isle. Thanks Huelo Point - hope to return ASAP!
If you are open to a more natural and laid back experience this is the place for you!! Sharyn is incredibly sweet and communicative. From the day we booked, I... read more knew that we were in for a really special experience. Meeting her in person was just as pleasant! She greeted us on the pathway driving up and directed us to Star Cottage. The cottage was charming and well appointed with special touches and flowers placed everywhere. Being a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Maui, the fresh eggs, bread, fruit and coffee were so helpful and appreciated. Having breakfast in the cottage was a treat each morning. The outdoor shower was strong and hot and the hot tub was exhilarating to sit in during some intermittent tropical rain! The whole property is abundant in lush flora and tropical fruit plants. I enjoyed just exploring around the grounds. The cliff lookout path took our breath away, we went for sunrise our first morning. This is a different way to experience Maui than I have ever had before and has stolen my heart all over again! Fifteen Stars for Star Cottage!!!!
Our second visit here. We were here from the day after Christmas till the day after New Years day. We arrived and there were snacks in the fridge; my wife... read more has Celiac (allergen to Gluten) and Sharyn made sure our snacks were gluten free. What a nice welcome. This place is easy to find, even in the dark. The road is a country road, just keep following the instructions on google map. Easy to find. This place looks over the ocean, maybe a 1/4 mile away, the view is beautiful. It is a two story house, lots of windows facing the ocean with a porch on the upper and the lower level. Only two of us, but we rented the entire house. We slept in the second floor bedroom where one can see the moonrise over the ocean and the sunrise over the ocean. The bedroom had a patio door to the porch; although open to the porch, it is really private. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the cooking items one would need. You need to supply your own food. There is a gas grill on the rear covered porch off the kitchen, and there is a large table on that covered porch too. The kitchen has a large beautiful table, one could seat 10 or more people at that table and still have room. The lower floor has a washer and dryer and another full bathroom. There is an outdoor hot tub on the lower level that is very secluded; one feels like they are in the middle of the jungle, well, I guess one would be at this place. We enjoyed the home so much that we stayed there for about 3 days without really going out except for walking about the property and 'neighborhood'. It's a tropical area and at the time we were there the weather would follow a cycle of wind, then rain, then wind, then the sun would come out, then the cycle would start all over again. It was beautiful and warm. When we wanted more sun we went to the other side of the island; don't let this description scare you, this property is on the way to Hana, so it is a tropical environment. It was what we wanted. Sharyn takes care of the tropical bugs in a reasonable 'makes sense' way, Cedar oil in small straws in key places, and a lizard population. It's pretty cool, one might see one or two lizards on the wall in the living room doing their job. They are harmless, we both have lived in areas where lizards are in the house. In short, although this place is secluded in a jungle, no bugs, even on the porch. There is parking for your rental car that is covered. There was a TV with an assortment of movies, but we never used it, no need. Summer would probably be warm, but there is a pool 20 feet from the house. The pool is shared with other guests. If you want a fabulous place in the country away from the tourist side of the island, this is the place. It really doesn't get any better. It was just what we desired. Two couples could easily stay here, or an entire family. It is set up for that with board games to play as well. We'll come back again for a third visit, we're working out the details. For us winter is nicer since we live in the cold Midwest. If you want to live like a local for a week, have peace and quiet and have beautiful scenery in a place secluded in a jungle, this is it. It doesn't get any better. I highly recommend this as a place to stay.
