VerifiedSerene, Welcoming Getaway on Maui's North Shore My wife and I had a wonderful stay in the Haleakala Cottage. Upon arrival to our room, we found chilled white wine, fresh fruit from the grounds and a loaf of bread waiting in our room. (The pineapple was the best I've ever tasted! Be sure to leave the pineapple top so they can grow more.) If you are looking for an inviting home base from which to visit the Road to Hana (pro tip: download the Shaka Guide app--worth the money!), Haleakala National Park (a little under two hours, but a shorter drive from here than most of the island), the sea turtles at Ho'okipa Beach, Mama's Fish House (book 4 to 6 months ahead!), or the lovely town of Paia, this is an ideal central location. (They even had a cooler in the room and cold packs in the fridge so we could bring perishable food and cold water for our trip to the Haleakala summit!) If you're simply looking for a spot to get away from all the tourists and just make a little home away from home, it's great for that, too. A full kitchen, outdoor shower, a private hot tub, and (shared) pool in a serene jungle setting? It's as wonderful as it sounds. We didn't get a chance to meet Sharyn and Jeff as our stay was short and jam-packed, but they seem like lovely, outgoing people. They enjoy meeting their guests, but also respect your space if you'd prefer to just keep to yourselves. If we are ever so fortunate to return to Maui, we'll be sure to stay at Huelo Point Lookout! If you're looking for a place on the North Shore of Maui, you can't go wrong staying here.Ted MJuly 27, 2023VerifiedA Gem on the Road to Hana! We stayed at the Star Cottage at Huelo Point Lookout, and it was truly a gem of an experience! The cottage itself is adorable and the owners gave us such a warm welcome with fresh native flowers placed on the towels and in every room as well as a couple welcome gifts in the kitchen. They made up the day bed for our son, and he loved his space. We appreciated having our bed in the loft area. The property is immaculate and private. We swam in the pool shared by 2 other cottages and never saw anyone so it felt like our personal pool. We did have a private hot tub which was fantastic. I especially loved the outdoor shower which we used every day - we never even used the indoor one. There is a walk to the cliffs overlooking the ocean and we saw sunsets and sunrises from this point. So special. It was so convenient to be on the Road to Hana. We were super close to Twin Falls where we swam in the waterfall pools. It also gave us a head start to get to Hana before traffic got bad. We got up early to attend our reservation from 7-10 a.m. at the Black Sand Beach near Hana which was a highlight. We did the sunset at Haleakala and being on that side of the island made the trip shorter. We could get to Paia pretty quickly....shopping, eating, beaches....everything you need!Stephanie BJuly 4, 2023VerifiedWant to really feel Maui? Stay at Huelo Point Lookout. This was one of the most phenomenal stays we've ever had as a family. In full disclosure, most of our favorite places end up at the end of some country road near water. The views of the ocean, the surrounding tropical forest, and the quiet caused by actual distance between other humans, were breathtaking. Our girls loved the pool (which they basically had to themselves for the entirety of our stay), and the location allowed for easy access to the Road to Hana. Sharyn and Kai had impeccable communication, and the tropical fruit, fresh eggs, fresh bread, and flowers were a delightful touch upon our arrival. The breeze off the ocean was constant and filled the entire upstairs lookout...until the rains would swing by, say hello and move on their way toward Paia. And...the stars- holy moly! Just like the mountains in Colorado. We're so grateful we happened upon this bed and breakfast and will be quick to find any excuse to come back in the future.Brian GJune 27, 2023VerifiedSlice of Paradise We truly considered the Lookout House at Huelo Point Lookout “home” by the end of our stay and were sad to leave. If you want to stay on one of the most spectacular, well-maintained properties you’ve ever seen in your life, look no further. It’s situated on what we found was the best side (the North) of the island, tucked away from it all, accessible only by private dirt road on a quiet land all its own with the most breathtaking views. The amount of thought and unexpected touches, from the gorgeous Hibiscus and Frangipani blooms left in every room, the bottle of wine staged with wine glasses, the fresh coffee beans (with a provided grinder), bread, eggs, pineapple and apple bananas, the butter, jams and creamer, the guava juice to the milk chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, the hosts could not have gone any more above and beyond to make us feel welcome. My family and I (five of us in total) enjoyed walking the grounds to visit the chickens, to look for chameleons and geckos, to swing on the hammock and to walk the “cliff trail.” We made use of the pool and private hot tub upon our arrival home from exploring the island each day and it was such a wonderful way to unwind. We truly never would have guessed other guests were staying on the property had we not met a delightful couple one evening at the pool. We cooked breakfast and dinner in the kitchen on a daily basis and it was stocked with most of what we needed. Each room was clean and comfortable and felt just as it should—that we were staying on a tropical island. Sharyn was quick to respond to every correspondence and provided top-notch recommendations. We were fortunate to meet her and she was just as lovely to talk to in-person. We will undoubtedly stay at Huelo Point Lookout if/when we travel to Maui again in the future. Look no further than this slice of paradise.Melissa MJune 19, 2023VerifiedRainforest getaway After a long day of travels it was lovely to be greeted with fresh flowers, homemade bread, homegrown eggs, fresh fruits, delicious juice and snacks. The place was clean with an amazing mattress, fluffy towels and a breathtaking garden. We hope to return and book one of the lookout houses next time. Thanks for your hospitality Sharyn!Tammie WJune 10, 2023VerifiedBeautiful rainforest hideaway! Our stay at Huelo Point Lookout was amazing! It was the perfect location for my family - an incredibly beautiful and quiet natural hideaway to return "home" to each day after exploring Maui. We loved finishing each day sitting in our private hot tub surrounded by the rainforest. Our kids loved exploring the property, swinging in the hammock, and searching for lizards and frogs. The property is arranged in a way that provides for a lot of privacy. The accommodations are very nice, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals and there was also an enclosed (screens) outdoor cooking area which we especially loved to use. The owners were very responsive when there was something extra we needed (an extra foldaway bed, boogie boards, a cooler for the beach). And on the loaded bookshelves they had my favorite guidebooks (Lonely Planet and Moon Travel guides) in addition to other books. Another plus is that we could use the laundry room. When we had questions the owners' son Kai would swing by to help. The owners did a great job communicating in advance of our trip. And when we arrived late at night there was juice, a bottle of wine, fresh bread, eggs from their chickens, and fresh fruit from the property awaiting our arrival. We would absolutely want to stay here again!!!George GJune 8, 2023VerifiedOnly Place to Stay! What a lovely spot away from the touristy hotels. The weather was comfortable, the jungle sounds with the birds singing, the refreshing tropical breeze and the giant bamboo clacking..wonderful. Haleakala cottage was perfect for the two of us. Upon entering the cottage we were presented with local aromatic flowers everywhere. Fresh, ripe local fruit, wine, bread and fresh eggs from the resident chickens along with other goodies…what an unexpected treat! Absolutely loved the private outdoor shower. After staying in the lookout house eleven years ago on our honeymoon we knew if we came back to Maui it would be here. A lovely experience… thank you to our wonderful hosts Sharyn, Jeff and Kai.TrailBlazer535841June 6, 2023VerifiedStar cottage, lovely stay We stayed at Star cottage for 5 nights and it was perfect. Secluded and private, the hot tub was perfect for relaxing after exploring for the day. The layout is a bit quirky but you soon get used to it. Lovely supply of goodies left in the fridge upon arrival. Great location for travelling around and seeing what Maui has to offer, the road to the property though is very rough so take it very slow and mind the frogs at night!Zoe BApril 22, 2023VerifiedRainbow Lookout at Huelo Point Lookout The rainbow lookout was such a great find. It feels very secluded and peaceful in a beautiful part of the island, and having access to a private hot tub was such a great amenity. The space is extremely nice, and we enjoyed having all the windows to see such fantastic views. The proprietors really though of every detail to make this place special, and they were very kind and accommodating throughout the check-in and check-out process -- it was so easy and they were very caring. Have already told friends about this place!bryan hApril 17, 2023VerifiedWe want to come back!!! All we could think of as check out day approached is 'we want to stay longer'! Absolutely amazing house with amazing views of the ocean and swaying palm trees. Just relax in the hammock watching the blue sky above and the skittering clouds. Lots of big fluffy towels. Everything you need in the kitchen, and wonderful treats awaiting us when we checked in. Yes, it did rain one day and we enjoyed the storm snug in the lovely livingroom. Touring the road to Hana was easy from this starting place. We (couple in our 70’s) stayed in the upper floor (5 nights March 2023) and our grown son stayed in the lower house and joined us upstairs at times. Sharyn is a lovely, wonderful host -- a delightful person. Did not get a chance to use the pool or hot tub -- saving those for return visit.kleeasherApril 16, 2023
