It can be easy to feel like a clueless tourist on Maui (because, face it, you probably are!) but this quiet, peaceful corner allows you to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the prime tourist destinations - while still being minutes away from them!
The place is a couple miles into the Road to Hana, so we felt especially smug about getting a head start on our Hana day trip to beat the heaviest of tourist traffic, and the drive back from Hana was much shorter than it would've been had we stayed elsewhere on the island, so that was a major perk! We also loved just relaxing in the private hot tub under the night sky (great stargazing), laying by the pool, and checking in on the chickens.

We were wrong, it is a short drive to Paia a cute little town with plenty to do. We were able to tour the entire island! Also being right on the Road to Hana we were able to do the drive twice, the first time we made the whole loop.
The treats that Sharyn left for us were delish, specially that BREAD!! Since returning home we have definitely been more cautious of our recyclables, it was a great learning experience for us both!
We cannot wait to return to paradise!!

This was a stunning experience for our family in the Lookout house. We left feeling transformed by the beauty, the ocean views, the tranquil quiet... and the many many... read more thoughtful touches by host Sharyn including gorgeous flowers all over the home, breakfast in the fridge after a late night arrival. Sharyn makes you feel so welcome, like coming home to an old friend, available for every need yet giving you space to just be. The ocean views from the lookout house are heavenly... we gazed upon sun rises, watched nourishing rain showers, and smiled upon multiple rainbows every day from the deck. The pool while shared was beautiful and private, we never saw another guest upon our stay. We enjoyed the private hot tub, the grill and outdoor deck for dinners. The home was colorful, thoughtful, the beds were extremely comfortable. We were able to enjoy walks and yoga in the front, a snooze in the hammock. The flowers and lushness of the property were incredibly lovely. The location was excellent for all of our upcountry adventures and hopping on the road to Hana upon our departure. The warmth and hospitality of the owners and staff is excellent and every item you need is there at your disposal. You are welcomed with the space adorned with flowers and they set you up with the basics like coffee, bread, and eggs in case you came in late we have been here twice and each time it’s been a treasure of an experience! This location would also work for a family reunion because there are different accommodations all over this gorgeous property!

She greeted us on the pathway driving up and directed us to Star Cottage. The cottage was charming and well appointed with special touches and flowers placed everywhere. Being a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Maui, the fresh eggs, bread, fruit and coffee were so helpful and appreciated. Having breakfast in the cottage was a treat each morning. The outdoor shower was strong and hot and the hot tub was exhilarating to sit in during some intermittent tropical rain! The whole property is abundant in lush flora and tropical fruit plants. I enjoyed just exploring around the grounds. The cliff lookout path took our breath away, we went for sunrise our first morning. This is a different way to experience Maui than I have ever had before and has stolen my heart all over again! Fifteen Stars for Star Cottage!!!!

We loved going to the lookout to see the ocean and the cliffs. The rental has everything you need and more. Sharyn is an incredible host. She provides some local treats and very special gifts that make you feel at home when you arrive. We love love loved the outdoor shower and hot tub, especially at night when you can see the stars. This was the kind of place you both want to come back to and want to recommend to all of your friends and family. 11/10!

The top floor allows breathtaking 180 degree views of the ocean, palm trees, flowers and lush greenery. Sunrise here is a wonderful experience. It’s a great way to start your day.
A big plus for this location is it’s only 10-15 minutes from the Twin Falls on the Hana Highway. It’s your first major stop on that journey. This is a big asset at the end of a long day when you get to go home while everyone else has to continue driving exhausted to the other side of Maui. I highly recommend this house. More

We utilized every aspect of the property from the sea cliff walk, the impeccably clean hot tub, to the very refreshing pool after a long day hiking. The bathroom and outdoor shower are absolutely beautiful, no detail left out. Say hi to the chix at least once, they were very friendly and gave us a taste of home while we stayed on Maui.
