We turned the chairs to face outward and watched the sunrise there every day. The beds are comfortable, kitchen well equipped, hot tub warm & bubbly, and the pool refreshing (though unheated, so a bit cold in winter). The setting is super private - the only times we saw other guests in 10 days were a couple times as we were driving off the property. We loved staying in this hidden corner of Maui, which is beautiful, lush, and not crowded by other people. That said, it is remote (about a half hour to Paia, the nearest town), so if you want night life, easy access to restaurants, etc, this probably isn’t the spot for you. Hosts Sharyn and Jeff were available but generally hands-off unless needed, which we appreciated.

My wife and I... read more grabbed the opportunity to book a last-minute, 5-night stay at the Ocean Lookout, and I can easily say it was one of the best travel decisions we've made yet. Just a short drive from the airport, you take a short side road and enter a property lush and full of life - not to mention epic, EPIC views of the north coast on one side, Haleakala on the other. It's your call whether you want to explore the trails on the Road to Hana, roll into Paia for a great meal, or try a beach just across the way. Heck, maybe you'll just stay and enjoy the house's quiet vibes, or that hot tub at the end of your day! Everything feels possible from here, and your hosts are charming and eager to share their recommendations. You see, Maui had been our very first trip off-mainland 12 years earlier, and after a tough experience we'd been bypassing it in favor of the Big Island. The top floor allows breathtaking 180 degree views of the ocean, palm trees, flowers and lush greenery. Sunrise here is a wonderful experience. It’s a great way to start your day.

A big plus for this location is it’s only 10-15 minutes from the Twin Falls on the Hana Highway. It’s your first major stop on that journey. This is a big asset at the end of a long day when you get to go home while everyone else has to continue driving exhausted to the other side of Maui. I highly recommend this house. More

The views, THE VIEWS!!! Nothing can prepare you for such magnificence. The location is BEYOND magical, with vivid and vibrant 180+ degrees of splendour!!!

Its host Sharyn was ALWAYS responsive, honestly and pristinely friendly; you can quickly tell she loves and enjoys to share the rejuvenating power this place has to offer. She automatically brought a level of comfort to my stay that blended beautifully with the cozy and tropical decoration inside and outside the lookout. Just so much gorgeousness all over!

This is the place to encounter nature, serenity, and the greatest of positive island vibes. Perhaps with your loved ones, or simply with/by yourself, as I did. Honestly, this became a "medicinal" experience to my whole being... and I'll be ready for more.

We loved going to the lookout to see the ocean and the cliffs. The rental has everything you need and more. Sharyn is an incredible host. She provides some local treats and very special gifts that make you feel at home when you arrive. We love love loved the outdoor shower and hot tub, especially at night when you can see the stars. This was the kind of place you both want to come back to and want to recommend to all of your friends and family. 11/10!

We utilized every aspect of the property from the sea cliff walk, the impeccably clean hot tub, to the very refreshing pool after a long day hiking. The bathroom and outdoor shower are absolutely beautiful, no detail left out. Say hi to the chix at least once, they were very friendly and gave us a taste of home while we stayed on Maui. No need to leave if you are looking to just indulge the senses and enjoy the local life of a Hawaiian, it was wonderfully quiet, and we felt we had the entire place to our own. She greeted us on the pathway driving up and directed us to Star Cottage. The cottage was charming and well appointed with special touches and flowers placed everywhere. Being a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Maui, the fresh eggs, bread, fruit and coffee were so helpful and appreciated. Having breakfast in the cottage was a treat each morning. The outdoor shower was strong and hot and the hot tub was exhilarating to sit in during some intermittent tropical rain! The whole property is abundant in lush flora and tropical fruit plants. I enjoyed just exploring around the grounds. The cliff lookout path took our breath away, we went for sunrise our first morning. This is a different way to experience Maui than I have ever had before and has stolen my heart all over again! Fifteen Stars for Star Cottage!!!!

Accommodations were homey and comfy (the dining room table which sitting at has you looking out over the ocean is itself a work of art!), facilities fantastic (more below on those), and hosts very warm and welcoming. Kiddo loved the pool, and the hot tub; Mr and Mrs have to agree with her. Access to some beach gear was a bonus for folks who travel light. We were fortunate to stay in the Ocean Lookout which is worth the extra money for the space and the stunning views. We encourage you to take the short walk to the cliff’s end to better appreciate the wonderful environs from which Sharyn and Jeff have created a truly special place to stay.
